I recently returned from my summer holiday (yes, for those of you who know me, I was in France). This year, thanks to my incredible team, I was able to step away for four weeks, and while a little work did sneak in here and there, I was able to disconnect and truly recharge. I’ve learned over the years that taking a chunk of time to relax is not a selfish act, but rather a restorative process that’s as vital to my well-being as getting a good night’s sleep. Sure, it comes with the perks of quality family time, and great cheese and good wine, but just as importantly, it provides me needed time to reflect, ponder, and plan.
This reflection centers not just on PeopleFirm and how our business has evolved, but on my own leadership, mindset, and passions. I take this time to honestly consider how I have shown up over the past year. Where have I leveraged my strengths? Where have I gone too far, not far enough, or totally missed the boat? As a leader of people, taking time to reflect and get clear with yourself is paramount. And what better way to do it than under the sun in one of your favorite places, surrounded by the people you love most.
I hope all you leaders out there get a chance to step back, reflect, and take stock. Understanding ourselves is powerful stuff, so please check this recent blog (Who You Are is How You Lead) by PeopleFirm’s Bill Harrision for a few ideas that can help you get started.
